Position: Electrician I (Clay Center, NE)

Description of Work

The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility located near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, alteration, addition, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of electrical systems, lighting controls, access control systems, building security systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation control systems.
  • Learn to interpret and use schematics and blueprint drawings to complete the installation and troubleshooting of electrical conduit systems, wiring, and device termination, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Respond to urgent after‑hours situations as part of an on‑call rotating schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency and registration as a Nebraska Apprentice Electrician upon hire.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, think critically, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
  • Availability by cell phone for campus emergencies and participation in weekend and after‑hours on‑call rotations.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required; subject to DOT approved pre‑employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in electrical technology or related field of study.
  • Experience working with electrical and low‑voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with Emergency Management Control System (EMCS) and/or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of or experience with building, electrical, and fire codes.
