Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Roofing Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for commercial and residential roofing projects. The Estimator will evaluate plans and site conditions, calculate material and labor costs, and produce timely proposals that support business growth while ensuring profitability and compliance with specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural and construction plans, specifications, and site conditions to prepare accurate estimates for roofing projects (commercial and residential).
- Conduct site visits as needed to verify measurements, roof condition, and scope of work; document findings with photos and notes.
- Calculate material quantities, labor hours, equipment needs, and subcontractor costs for roofing, sheet metal, and re-roofing projects.
- Prepare detailed written proposals and bid packages, including scope of work, pricing breakdowns, exclusions, and timelines.
- Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and resolve estimate-related questions.
- Maintain and update cost databases, material pricing lists, and historical job cost information to improve estimate accuracy.
- Use estimating software and spreadsheets to produce timely bids and track bid status; ensure bids meet company margin and risk guidelines.
- Assist in value engineering and alternate solution development to present cost-effective options to clients.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and provide technical input on roofing systems, materials, and construction methods.
- Support contract review and transition of awarded jobs to operations, ensuring estimates are aligned with project execution plans.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in roofing estimation, preferably with new commercial roofing and re-roofing projects.
- Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with roofing systems, sheet metal fabrication/installation, and new construction details.
- Strong estimating skills with experience using common estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and takeoff tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client contact and coordination with internal teams and subcontractors.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Working knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and industry best practices related to roofing and sheet metal.
- Valid drivers license and ability to perform site visits; OSHA or other safety certifications preferred.
- Preferred: experience in commercial roofing sales support or prior field roofing experience to validate estimates.
