Position: Custodian I Night Shift - Capitol Complex

This position independently performs a range of tasks related to maintaining building interiors and furnishings in Capitol Complex managed facilities. Assignments may include keeping exterior walkways clear of debris and snow.

This position works the 4:00 pm - 12:30 am shift.

Summary of duties and responsibilities

  • Custodian/Housekeeping Services – Office and common area cleaning including trash removal, dusting, vacuuming, window cleaning, multi‑surface cleaning, brass cleaning and polishing, hard‑surface floor cleaning and recycling. Restroom cleaning including trash removal, fixtures, stocking supplies, sweeping and mopping.
  • Emergency response and other duties as assigned – Position may be called upon for additional duties that may include snow removal, emergency response and assistance (such as a flooded floor), inventory counts, meetings, and assisting other trades with various projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: At least six (6) months of relevant experience in an occupation related to professional, commercial custodian work.

Conditions of Employment

  • A pre‑employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
  • Need to be able to stand for at least 8 hours/day.
  • Physical demands: able to exert force to move up to 100 pounds occasionally, stooping, kneeling and crouching.

The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position.

Comparative Analysis Process

The comparative analysis process for this position may consist of a structured application review and a structured interview.

Appeal Rights

As an applicant directly affected by the results of the selection or comparative analysis process, you may file a written appeal with the State Personnel Director.

The form must be completed and delivered to the State Personnel Board by email at dpa_s within ten (10) calendar days from your receipt of notice or acknowledgement of the Department’s action.
