Job Description
Surgical Technologist
- About Facility:
- 900 licensed beds
- Level 1 Trauma Designation
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma – Levine Children's Hospital
- Teaching Hospital
- Chest Pain Center
- Stroke Center
- Magnet Designation
- Cannot live within 50 miles of facility
- General Information:
- Suites: 32 OR 1 procedure
- Census: Average patients/day 70-100 cases per day
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in a Level I or II Trauma Center (Level III or below not accepted)
- First-time traveler: No
- Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- General, transplants, minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgeries, robotics (DaVinci XI), GYN, surgical and ortho oncology, orthopedic trauma, neuro spine, neuro heads/brains, skull-based tumors, plastics, deep flap reconstructions, head/neck free flaps, airways
- Required Licensure & Certifications:
- Surgical Tech: BLS, Must be a graduate of surgical tech program. CST preferred but not required
- Skills required:
- Experience with above case types
- Ortho trauma is a must
- Head/neck free flaps (plastics reconstruction)
- Microsurgery
- Support within the Department:
- Clinical Supervisor
- Charge RN
- OR Assistants
- Anesthesia/CRNA team
- Supportive leadership team
- Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Floating: None
- Orientation (facility and unit):
- NEO
- Remainder of the week will be in orientation
- Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: call only
- On call: 1900-2300 late call once per week
- One weekend call shift every 6-8 weeks (0600 Saturday – 0600 Monday)
- 1 hour response time
- Holiday Expectations: 50% of holidays in a contract
- RTO approvals: through manager
- Shift times: 0625-1900 (tardiness after 0625)
- Schedule cycle: Supervisors schedule; Manager open to block scheduling
- Other notes:
- Scrub Color: Provided. Extended sizing available if needed
- Parking: Free
- Unit Culture: Good teamwork, supportive leadership
