Position Summary:
Postman Law is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to join our growing plaintiff-side practice in Chicago . You'll manage a caseload of Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC) matters from intake through resolution, advocating for injured workers and helping them secure the medical care and benefits they're entitled to. This is a strong fit for an attorney who wants ownership of their docket, room to grow, and the infrastructure of a scaling multi-state firm behind them.
Competitive compensation in the range of $120,000+, depending on experience, includes a base salary, bonus opportunities, and benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a full caseload of Illinois workers' compensation cases from opening through settlement or trial
Represent petitioners at arbitration hearings, pre-trial conferences, and settlement negotiations before the IWCC
Draft and file motions, petitions, settlement contracts, and other litigation documents
Negotiate settlements and lump-sum/structured resolutions on behalf of clients
Review and analyze medical records to evaluate claim strength, causation, and case value
Coordinate with medical providers to help clients access appropriate treatment
Take and defend depositions; conduct discovery as needed
Communicate regularly with clients, guiding them through each phase of the claims process
Collaborate with case staff to keep files moving
Keep current on changes to Illinois Workers' Compensation Act and IWCC procedure
Required Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school
Licensed and in good standing with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC)
3–7 years of experience handling workers' compensation matters (petitioner side preferred)
Demonstrated litigation and negotiation experience, including hearings before the IWCC
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with medical record review and causation analysis in workers' compensation claims
Familiarity with case management platforms; specific experience with Litify highly preferred
Existing relationships with IWCC arbitrators, mediators, or the Chicago Workers' Compensation bar
