The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services is seeking a Groundskeeping Supervisor I. This full‑time, permanent role, located in Kaneohe, involves supervising maintenance staff and ensuring grounds and facilities are well maintained.
What You Will Do
- Lead and direct groundskeeping crews by assigning daily work, overseeing park and playground maintenance activities, and supervising weekend operations.
- Inspect parks and recreational areas regularly to evaluate work quality, identify maintenance needs, and plan repairs and improvements.
- Ensure safe work practices by enforcing safety regulations and training employees on the proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Maintain workforce accountability by monitoring attendance, addressing performance issues, and administering corrective action when necessary.
- Coordinate resources and operations by transporting supplies and equipment, requesting needed materials, and completing required reports and accident documentation.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Special Working Conditions
- Work schedule is five days a week from 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with varying days off.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
- This position will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

Experience Requirement
Experience and or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas.
- Understand the principles and practices of supervision.
- Understand the propagation, planting, and maintenance of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
- Operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
- Plan, supervise, and review the work of others.
- Detect plant diseases and initiate methods for their eradication and control.
- Train employees on safety practices and the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Give and follow oral and written instructions.
License Requirement
- Valid Hawaii State Driver's License (Type 3/automobile)
- Certification in the appropriate category as a Commercial Applicator of Restricted Pesticides, as required.
