Duties

If selected, you will serve as an Administrative Services Assistant (Office Automation) in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Western District of Washington. You will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support in a variety of program areas in support of the District. At the full performance level, duties will include:

  • Maintaining electronic databases to track information and suspense items;
  • Assisting in maintaining property records and conducting inventory, as well as requesting for issuance, return, and repairs of non-expendable office equipment and furniture;
  • Receiving, opening, date stamping, reading, classifying, and routing mail;
  • Reviewing, analyzing, classifying, and reconciling transactions, commitment, and obligation documents;
  • Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, and personnel processing activities in support of the Human Resources Unit; and
  • Preparing documents for payment of services and maintaining procurement records and documents as required.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-5: To be qualified at the GS-5 level, you must have: at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service; OR four (4) years of education above the high school level; OR a combination of both specialized experience and education as defined below.

  • Specialized Experience is defined as performing various clerical/administrative duties in support of the operation of an office. Examples include reviewing documents with basic legal implications for accuracy and completeness; receiving and routing incoming mail; responding to routine inquiries; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; maintaining filing systems; and performing data entry within an electronic automated database system.
  • Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience (as defined above) and post-high school education may be used to meet the total experience requirements for the GS-5 grade level. Only post-high school education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the qualification requirements. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

GS-6: To be qualified at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.

  • Specialized Experience is defined as providing a variety of administrative and procedural support in one or more of the following areas: support services, human resources, budget or finance, space management, property management, mail processing, time and attendance, and information reception services. Examples include maintaining office calendars and scheduling meetings, conferences, and appointments for management; preparing, reviewing, and distributing correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents; receiving visitors; assisting higher graded human resources, budget/finance, procurement, and/or support services staff with preparing and processing routine documents; and maintaining financial, personnel, or other types of administrative files and reports.

GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.

  • Specialized Experience is defined as performing limited or routine technical support duties in one or more of the following administrative services programs: support services, human resources, budget or finance, space management, property management, mail processing, time and attendance, and information reception services.
