Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a Premier educational institution that provides exceptional, cost-free, career-focused education for over 2,200 pre-K through 12th grade students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This is made possible by the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey, who envisioned a supportive environment for children in need.

We are currently seeking married couples for the rewarding position of Full-time Flex Houseparents. In this impactful role, couples will live in on-campus student homes and provide essential care, guidance, supervision, and support to a group of approximately 8-13 students. As Flex Houseparents, you will help create a nurturing, structured, family-like atmosphere that fosters the academic, emotional, and social growth of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily supervision and mentorship to students.
  • Manage household routines and ensure student schedules are followed.
  • Administer medications and promote overall student wellness.
  • Transport students to various activities and engage in developmental and recreational activities.
  • Lead daily devotions and accompany students to Sunday Chapel services.
  • Oversee household budgeting and complete necessary reporting.

Initially, Flex Houseparents will support various student homes while following a schedule of nine consecutive days on duty with three days off. On weekdays, houseparents will have unscheduled time when students are in school. Eventually, Flex Houseparents will transition into a Placed Houseparent role, living and working with the same group of students.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: $46,917.00 per person, equating to approximately $180,000 total compensation per couple, including free housing, meals while on duty, and utilities.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; flexible spending accounts; life insurance; disability options; and retirement savings.
  • Relocation assistance and paid training provided.
  • Paid time off throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working or volunteering with youth.
  • Applicants must be a legally married couple for at least two years.
  • Both spouses must be aged 27 or older.
  • A maximum of three dependent children may reside in the student home.
  • Commitment to a smoke-free and weapon-free campus; no alcohol permitted while on duty.
  • Pet limitations apply: Only fish and one approved dog breed allowed.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and willingness to become certified to drive student home vans.
  • Comfort in leading daily devotions and accompanying students to Judeo-Christian Sunday Chapel services (proselytizing prohibited).
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and dedication to serving as positive role models for students.

This opportunity presents a unique, fulfilling career path that demands a strong commitment to the success of students from both spouses. If interested, both individuals must complete separate employment applications.
