JOB TITLE: Lead Medical Biller

DEPARTMENT : Administration

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for Medicare Notice of Elections, billing, posting payments, and collection of accounts receivable. Responsible for the overall administration of the billing process.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

REPORTS TO : Controller

SUPERVISES : None

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS : All comments, actions and behaviors have a direct effect on the public’s perception of Hospice Austin. Interactions with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, visitors, co-workers, etc. must be in a manner that is courteous, respectful, cooperative and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork and positive relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for managing Notice of Elections (NOEs), billing, payment posting, and collection of accounts receivable from Medicare.
  • Oversee the implementation and administration of the monthly billing process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provide support and serve as primary backup for Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Assist with general accounting processes, including month-end close activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the finance team

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of hospice Medicare regulations.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in medical billing and collections.
  • Billing/Coding certification (e.g., CBCS, AAPC-CPC) required.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD coding.
  • Experience with insurance verification and pre-authorizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and auto liability insurance and maintain a safe driving record.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficient in office computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and experienced with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong analytical, Excel, and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience with appeals, contracts, and credentialing processes in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with medical billing clearinghouses, third-party payers, billing software, and government programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
