GENERAL SUMMARY
The Town of Littleton is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time 40-hour/week, benefit eligible Equipment Operator position in the Department of Public Works, Highway Division. As of July 1, 2024 the schedule is 4, 10 hour days a week (Monday through Thursday). This position performs routine work assisting in all Public Works construction, maintenance and repair projects. Ability to operate heavy equipment, riding mowers, snow and ice equipment, power and hand tools is required. Snow and ice operations, drainage system experience and roadway construction knowledge preferred. Stipends include on call standby, winter standby, licenses and clothing per the union contract. Overtime is available.

Successful candidates will have a valid driver's license, CDL class B and a Hoisting license 2B/1C minimum (or ability to obtain within 12 months). This position will be subject to a thorough background check.
The starting pay rate is $24.56 - $29.54/hr, commensurate with applicable licenses and experience. This is a non-exempt position governed by the AFSCME Local 1703 contract. FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to operate trucks and complex heavy motor equipment and perform manual work assisting in all Department of Public Works construction, maintenance and repair projects. Performs all other related work as required. The Equipment Operator/Laborer is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Functions are generally well defined and limited in scope but may involve some judgment and initiative in determining method of completion.
Supervision Received:
Works under the general supervision of the Working Foreman or General Foreman, referring all questionable cases and problems to the supervisor.

Job Environment:
The majority of work is performed outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes and inclement weather. Incumbent is subject to the hazards associated with construction sites. Work environment is very loud. On-call for emergencies and stand-by operations.
Regularly, operates equipment such as dump trucks, tree trucks, light duty trucks, backhoe, frontend loader, sweeper, roadside (boom) mower, wood chippers, catch-basin cleaner, tractor, grader, sander, snow plow, riding mowers, line painters, ground equipment, hand/power/pneumatic tools, and basic surveying equipment.
Interacts occasionally with other town departments, the general public and contractors working for the department. Communicates in person and involves an information exchange dialogue.
Errors in judgment may result in time loss and delay, cause damage to buildings, equipment, and/or infrastructure resulting in serious personal injury and injury to others and have monetary repercussions.
Essential Functions:

- Operates equipment and performs manual labor for all public works projects including constructing and repairing storm drains, streets, sidewalks, parking lots, snow removal and other special projects.
- Operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal, sand and salt spreaders, backhoe, front-end loader, sidewalk plows, street sweeper, dump trucks, tractor, catch basin cleaner, roadside (boom) mower, grader and hand/power/pneumatic tools.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment and vehicles and notifies supervisor of equipment malfunctions requiring more substantial maintenance.
