Job Summary
We are currently seeking a skilled generalist to fill the role of Senior Medical Technologist on the day shift. This position will involve overseeing Point of Care testing and Microbiology. The schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., including rotating weekends.
Experience in Point of Care and/or Microbiology is preferred but not mandatory, as training will be provided. Certification by ASCP or AMT is required. Senior level experience is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a biological science is required (equivalency is required for foreign education). Note that those hired for this position prior to 7/1/2019 are not required to have a Bachelor's degree.
Licenses/Certifications: Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM, or Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP).
Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- Two (2) years of relevant experience in a high-complexity laboratory in the assigned area. Completion of Senior Medical Technologist skills competency is expected within one year of accepting this position.
Principal Accountabilities
- Perform and document test results, quality control, and maintenance procedures in accordance with technical policies/procedures; troubleshoot instruments when necessary.
- Oversee and evaluate performance in testing, quality control, maintenance, and procedures for assigned areas. Prepare monthly quality summary reports related to instrument performance and quality control.
- Maintain and evaluate technical procedures as they pertain to the department; meet/exceed competency requirements for all workstations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards from agencies such as TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA; participate in mock inspections and readiness assessments.
- Mentor and assess the competency of laboratory employees and students in technical procedures, quality control, and performance improvement.
- Contribute to training, performance appraisals, and competency assessments for Medical Technologists.
- Exhibit leadership by promoting quality patient care and excellent customer service, while adhering to a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Create teamwork among departments; provide and solicit effective feedback, and ensure proper documentation of issues and resolutions.
- Communicate effectively with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding laboratory inquiries and test results.
- Adhere to safety protocols for patients, staff, and visitors while managing time, resources, and quality of service per Memorial Hermann standards.
- Commit to personal professional growth through mandatory education and skills competency; serve as a mentor to less experienced staff.
- Demonstrate compassion and commitment to community service by fostering personalized patient experiences. Uphold Memorial Hermann's standards of care.
