Job Title: Security Guard / Communications Specialist (Dispatcher)
Job Description
This role combines security and communications responsibilities in a 24/7 security operations environment serving a large, community-focused property in downtown Bellevue. Under general supervision, you will operate radios, telephones, computerized and electronic communications systems, and support field security officers while delivering professional, courteous service to the public. You will work assigned shifts, including days, second shift, and overnights, and are expected to act with a high degree of independence, initiative, and sound judgment while maintaining strong teamwork and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate fixed-base communications equipment, including two-way radios, telephones, computer terminals, and related electronic systems as part of a security network linking multiple properties.
- Receive and transmit messages between fixed locations and mobile security units, ensuring clear, accurate, and timely communication.
- Initiate and coordinate the movement of security personnel in response to both routine activities and emergency situations.
- Maintain current and accurate listings of field unit locations and status at all times.
- Monitor electronic alarms, emergency management systems, emergency elevator intercoms, and other warning systems, and initiate appropriate responses.
- Monitor video surveillance camera systems and initiate recording of activities as necessary to protect property and ownership interests.
- Provide information and assistance to the public on topics such as hours of operation, rules and regulations, parking information, and applicable local ordinances and laws.
- Answer, transfer, and manage phone calls and messages, including placing calls on hold to prioritize radio communications from security officers in the field.
- Maintain typed logs documenting field unit activities and communications for all assigned properties.
- Prepare and type reports, statements, testimony, and other written materials with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, data coding, and maintaining organized records.
- Receive, inventory, secure, and release lost and found property after verifying proper ownership or title.
- Operate computer terminals and specialized systems, including Simplex fire systems, cardkey computer systems, license plate recognition programs, emergency and elevator intercoms, and control switches.
- Read, understand, and interpret rules, regulations, and safety procedures, and apply them appropriately in daily operations.
- Assimilate information quickly and formulate appropriate plans of action, balancing safety, security, and public relations considerations.
- Follow and abide by all written and oral instructions, rules, regulations, and procedures governing employee conduct and security operations.
- Work independently when required, exercising appropriate authority and taking initiative to correct problems or identify solutions in the best interests of the organization.
- Interact courteously and tactfully with the public, internal staff, and external partners, maintaining a professional and service-oriented demeanor.
- Remain calm, clear, and decisive in emergency or emotionally charged situations, including talking with upset individuals and helping to de-escalate tensions.
- Talk on two-way radios in a calm, clear voice to ensure others understand the situation and required actions.
- Give clear directions and assistance to visitors and guests, contributing to positive goodwill for the properties.
- Reach above head to operate fire panel equipment, switches, and to access emergency procedure binders.
- Lift files and materials weighing approximately 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Move quickly within the dispatch center when responding to emergencies or rapidly changing situations.
- Sit for extended periods while maintaining alertness, focus, and attention to assigned tasks.
- Align behavior and decisions with the needs, priorities, and goals of the organization at all times.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards, honesty, and integrity, refraining from any theft-related, dishonest, or unethical behavior.
- Work and communicate with internal and external clients and customers in a polite, cooperative, and quality-focused manner.
- Work varied shift assignments, including scheduled and unscheduled shifts, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require.
