Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Surgical Technician in the Surgery department. You will be primarily responsible for maintaining the sterile field and ensuring that all team members adhere to aseptic technique. This position is 100% onsite and requires residence in the greater Chicagoland area.
Eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $5,000.
Essential Job Functions
- Compassionately provide personal patient care to give comfort and well‑being to the surgical patient.
- Anticipate the needs of surgeons, passing instruments and providing sterile items efficiently.
- Assist by holding instruments as directed by the physician.
- Prepare the procedure room and check non‑sterile equipment to ensure it is in proper working order.
- Participate in positioning of patients for the procedure.
- Post‑op responsibilities include cleaning the procedure room and removal of all contaminated instruments, linen, and garbage; disposing of all blood and body fluids using the biohazard process.
- Provide equipment and supplies based on patient/procedure needs.
- Adhere to infection control principles.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
- Certification as a CST from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a CST in an acute‑care hospital.
- GI Tech experience.
