Position Summary
The Elementary Teacher is responsible for fostering the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth of students in alignment with St. Gregory the Great School’s mission of forming disciples of Christ. This role creates a structured, engaging, and faith-filled learning environment that promotes academic excellence, character development, and a love of learning.
Primary Responsibilities
Faith & School Mission
- Model and promote Catholic values through daily prayer, instruction, and classroom culture.
- Teach and integrate the Catholic faith in collaboration with clergy, parish ministries, and school staff.
- Support sacramental preparation when applicable.
Instruction & Curriculum
- Teach all core subject areas including Religion, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies using a STREAM-based approach.
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in accordance with NYS learning standards.
- Implement a balanced literacy approach in collaboration with grade-level team.
- Utilize a conceptual understanding approach to mathematics instruction.
- Design inquiry-based learning experiences in science and social studies.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, assessments, and enrichment/remediation strategies.
Classroom Environment & Management
- Establish clear routines, expectations, and a positive classroom culture.
- Implement developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies and positive discipline.
- Create a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
- Facilitate daily morning meetings and prayer to build community.
Student Support & Assessment
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain and update gradebook and eSchool at least weekly.
- Support the whole child by addressing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.
Communication & Collaboration
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Communicate regularly with parents through email, classroom platforms, and school tools.
- Respond to parent communication within 24–48 hours.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, Open House, and other school events.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support student success and school initiatives.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend faculty meetings monthly.
- Participate in required school events, including but not limited to: Parent Information Night, Open House, and graduation.
- Attend committee meetings and up to four additional school functions annually.
- Complete at least two professional development sessions annually.
- Complete required diocesan ministry training (5 hours annually).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Pastor.

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education (or in progress)
- New York State Certification (Birth–Grade 2 or Childhood Education 1–6)
- 3–5 years of teaching experience preferred
- Successful completion of background check and Protecting God’s Children certification
Physical Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting, and active engagement with students throughout the school day. Teachers must be able to perform duties safely and effectively.
