As a Registered Nurse (RN) at Rochester Regional Health, you play a central role in patient care. You make a positive difference every single day in the lives of patients, their families and visitors by providing care with courtesy, kindness, respect and compassion.

You will perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data (i.e. physical, psychological, educational and risk-screen data appropriate for the chronological / developmental age of the patient). Demonstrating clinical judgment when responding to priority patient needs is expected, along with clear communication and documentation of assessments with the interdisciplinary team. Use of all available resources to meet patient and family needs is required.

Planning and documentation of individualized plans of care, treatment and services that address patient needs, strengths, limitations and goals is part of the role. You will include the interdisciplinary health team as needed and communicate effectively with patients, families and the team.

In collaboration with the interdisciplinary health team, you will provide care, treatment and services while maintaining an appropriate nurse-patient relationship. Compliance with organizational policies, procedures and protocols — including those governing safety, medication administration and documentation — is required. You will initiate and document education plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs.

You are expected to evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care and to revise plans of care based on ongoing evaluations, updating documentation appropriately. Ensuring patients and families receive and understand education/training specific to their needs and abilities using the teach back method is required and should be documented.

Demonstrating compassion, leadership and professionalism is important. Confidently lead the care delivery team through effective communication, collaboration and leadership, assume responsibility and accountability on the unit/patient care team, and work collaboratively with others. Demonstrate knowledge of legal aspects of nursing as evidenced by documentation and professional behaviors. Delegate appropriate responsibilities to assigned nurses and ancillary staff and manage job related stressors and constructive feedback during intra/interdepartmental relations. Flexibility in meeting staffing needs throughout the organization is expected.

Participate in problem-solving activities at the unit level by identifying problems and working collaboratively toward resolution. Provide input regarding protocols, policies and procedures to your immediate supervisor and provide training/precepting for new team members on the unit.

You will engage with performance improvement and evidence-based practice. Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practice within your practice area and identify opportunities for performance improvement. Participate in and utilize the performance improvement process to improve clinical practice.
