DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position serves as the primary ancillary support for the provision as well as coordination of Physical Therapy (PT) services at Anaheim Community Hospital. This position performs the necessary work processes that directly result in treatments and exercises to help patients recover from illnesses and injuries. The main duties include conducting various initial and ongoing specialty assessments of motor and neurological function, performing various treatment techniques, developing personalized treatment plans, recommending medications to relieve pain/increase mobility, and teaching patients and support staff exercise techniques to improve patient health.

1. Assessment & Diagnosis & Treatment
- Ability to perform Physical Therapy (PT) in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Diagnose movement dysfunction by listening to patients and observing them as they move about.
- Utilize basic, specialized evidence-based assessments and procedures to assess patients.
- Develop an individualized treatment plan and share timely updates on patient progress.
- Coach patients and teach them therapeutic exercises and stretches to improve their condition
- Use hands-on therapy such as massage to ease patients’ pain and provide stimulation to promote healing
- Maintain patient records by keeping track of goals and progress while adapting treatment plans accordingly
- Advise patients and their families on in-home treatment options and what to expect from the recovery process
2. Consultation
- Consult with patients to learn about their physical condition (signs/symptoms) and review their medical history and referrals from doctors and/or surgeons
- Coordinates care across various disciplines to ensure timely use of resources
3. Participation on Multidisciplinary treatment Team
- Demonstrate standards and expectations for customer service excellence and service recovery for all patient care / service line activities.
- Cross-educate Anaheim Community Hospital staff/providers on all aspects of physical therapy service line programs.
4. Education
- In collaboration with other assigned ACH team members, develop, organize and provide strategic education to identified stakeholders about assigned service line (physical therapy programs).
- Organize and assist with target-market specific Open House events for Anaheim Community Hospital as assigned.
5. Performs related duties as requested.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work, required.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in in kinesiology, biology or other health related discipline.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited program, required or eligible to sit for and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), if recently graduated within 1 year from training
- Active California State License for Physical Therapist
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) within 30 days of employment and maintain current.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Prior experience in an acute care, skilled nursing facility setting performing physical therapy assessment and care.
- A proven record of effective oral and written communications with people of varying backgrounds.
- Experience/training working clinically within a hospital environment.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal licensure requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in use of computer software including MS Word.
- Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues and maintain confidentiality in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
- Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
- Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
