Job Overview
The Clinical Manager is responsible for directing and managing the daily operations of a direct patient care department to ensure policies, procedures, and guidelines are being followed; providing clinical expertise, leading department team members in providing developmentally appropriate care and evaluating outcomes; and ensuring compliance with quality and safety initiatives and practices. The Clinical Manager ensures the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives to improve healthcare performance and patient experience of care in a cost-effective manner. The Clinical Manager is a partner with others in the healthcare leadership team to enhance clinical practice by coaching for performance and promotion of professional growth. Finally, the Clinical Managerprovides leadership in managing department team members and patient/family experiences.
The Operating Room at Children’s Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs is a Level II Trauma Center with 4 OR units and a procedure room that treats children and adolescents. The unit currently supports more than 13 different surgical specialties and performs more than 6,300 cases annually. Our unique yet impressive team is comprised of bachelor’s prepared nurses, certified surgical technicians, anesthesia technicians, anesthesia providers, and surgeons. The staff in the OR are proud to provide safe, quality care to our patients. We perform a wide variety of surgical procedures, including abdominal, cleft, craniofacial, and plastic reconstructive surgery, colorectal surgery, ENT surgery, trauma surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology surgery, and urology surgery. Our OR nurses and surgical technologists receive extensive training and education in all surgical specialties, promoting communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. We promote continued education and encourage staff to pursue specialty certifications. Department Name: Colorado Springs Operating Room
Job Status: full time, 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits
Shift: Mainly Monday through Friday business hours.Required to be on call for the unit as well.
This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater.
Essential Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. (These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Directs and manages the daily operations of the department to ensure policies, procedures, and guidelines are being followed. Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines for practice.
- Develops and communicates departmental strategic plan and annual goals, ensuring employees are focused on priorities. Ensures the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives to enhance clinical practice and professional growth.
- Provides clinical expertise, leading department team members in providing developmentally appropriate care and evaluating outcomes for infants and children with complex health care needs.
- Represents the department in meetings senior leadership or with leaders from other areas of the hospital. Serves as a representative on various committees. Fosters collaborative relationships that benefit the organization.
- Interprets and explains regulatory standards and hospital policies, procedures, and rules to employees and ensures compliance with applicable quality and safety initiatives and practices.
- Ensures staff and financial resources are utilized appropriately and shifts resources to meet both patient and department needs within budget restraints.
- Resolves escalated, complex, or controversial operational and patient/family issues, making decisions that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems.
- Establishes performance metrics for department. Works with Associate Clinical Managers to achieve department outcomes, performance and professional development standards; identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
- Continuously strives to improve clinical, educational, research, and advocacy programs in department; sets and models high performance standards that empower staff to achieve agreed upon outcomes. Encourages clinically-based research projects to evaluate practice outcomes and mentors department team members in creating/evaluating projects.
- Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates department team members. Creates a worker-friendly environment that develops and realizes the full potential of department team members.
