Job Title: CNC Machinist – Horizontal Mill

Location: Canby, Oregon

Employment Type: Full-Time (On-Site)

Shifts available: Swing Shift, Monday – Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM

Position Overview

Northwest Machine Works is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist with Horizontal Mill experience to join our team. This role is responsible for operating CNC milling machines, supporting other machinists, and maintaining consistent quality and production flow in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.

We will review candidates at Machinist Level 2, 3, and 4 for this position. From Operator level up to full Journeyman experience.

We are a team-oriented shop that values accountability, quality, and continuous improvement. This position requires strong attention to detail, adaptability, and a willingness to support multiple areas of production.

Key Responsibilities (minimum required)

  • Operate Horizontal CNC mill in a production environment
  • Support other machinists to maintain efficient job flows
  • Perform in-process inspections and monitor tool wear
  • Read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, and work instructions
  • Identify and properly use cutting tools and inserts
  • Perform basic deburring and hand finishing as needed
  • Organize and prepare materials, tooling, and fixtures for upcoming jobs
  • Break down and clean machines at the completion of jobs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Support other departments as needed
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and business needs

Qualifications

  • Experience operating CNC milling machines in a precision CNC machining environment is required
  • Minimum 2 years CNC Mill experience.
  • Trade school or formal machinist training preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Basic math skills (measurement, decimals, and basic trigonometry)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, and accountable

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs regularly
  • Frequent use of hands for tools, controls, and measuring instruments
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment including noise, moving machinery, coolant, and metal chips
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as applicable
