Position Overview

Industrial HVAC/R Technician – Ladson, SC

Amentum is seeking a skilled industrial HVAC/R Technician to join our Facility Operations & Maintenance team. The technician provides advanced expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment in an industrial environment. This role includes training and assisting other technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility and process-related equipment, including heating, ventilation, rooftop AHUs, split systems, pumps, fans, chillers, freezers, coolers, refrigerators, dryers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heating and ventilation equipment and associated control systems.
  • Use building automation systems to track building conditions and operation of facilities equipment.
  • Respond to all work orders and hot/cold calls while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC control and operating systems as scheduled in the CMMS.
  • Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Follow safety guidelines, including job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE usage.
  • Work safely with 3‑phase power up to 480V and electrical circuits ranging from 24VAC/DC and higher.
  • Operate measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments for energy‑efficiency solutions.
  • Use hand tools, laptops, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Maintain a strict schedule while demonstrating flexibility in daily activities and scheduling to benefit the customer.
  • General maintenance of equipment and other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0–3 years of HVAC maintenance experience in an industrial environment, or equivalent education/experience.
  • EPA Universal certification.
  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30ft or higher.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Valid driver’s license (if required).
  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client’s location.
  • Willingness to work overtime, variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and alternative schedules.
  • Physical ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, move 90‑degree motions, stretch, reach, work repetitively.
  • Professional, friendly interaction with clients.
  • Wear steel‑toe safety shoes with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and other PPE as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical school diploma in industrial electrical, industrial mechanical, HVAC, or related trade.
  • Experience with 3‑phase voltage up to 480V, variable frequency drives, sheet‑metal for air handling, preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment, reading prints and schematics, restaurant‑style refrigeration systems, and facility maintenance of garage doors, light plumbing, dock locks, electrical and light carpentry.
  • Experience maintaining cooling towers (Reymsa, Cyrco, Marley).

Compensation

$28–$32 per hour (actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, experience, and market data).
