REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Developmental Preschool Teacher
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Non-Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: As Needed
STANDARD HOURS: As Assigned
Position Summary
The Pre-K Substitute Aide provides temporary classroom support in the absence of the regular preschool instructional assistant. Under the direction of the classroom teacher and administration, the substitute aide assists in creating a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool students. The substitute aide supports instructional activities, supervises students, and helps maintain daily classroom routines while ensuring the safety and well-being of all children.
Essential Responsibilities
•
Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily instructional activities and classroom routines.
•
Provide support to individual students and small groups as directed by the classroom teacher.
•
Supervise students during classroom instruction, centers, meals, recess, restroom breaks, and transitions.
•
Assist students with age-appropriate self-help skills, including toileting, dressing, feeding, and personal hygiene as needed while maintaining student dignity and privacy.
•
Support positive behavior expectations and classroom management strategies.
•
Help prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized, clean, and safe classroom environment.
•
Foster positive relationships with students through patience, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
•
Maintain confidentiality of all student and district information.
•
Follow lesson plans and directions provided by the classroom teacher or administrator.
•
Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members.
•
Follow all Greenwood Community School Corporation policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
•
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or supervising teacher.
Qualifications
•
High school diploma or equivalent required.
•
Previous experience working with preschool-aged children or children with disabilities is preferred.
•
Ability to work effectively with young children in a classroom setting.
•
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•
Demonstrated patience, flexibility, dependability, and professionalism.
•
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school staff.
Physical Requirements
•
Ability to lift, assist, and supervise young children as needed.
•
Ability to bend, kneel, squat, reach, and sit on the floor for extended periods.
•
Ability to actively supervise students indoors and outdoors.
•
Ability to perform personal care tasks and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
