Job Title: Machine Operator / Assembler

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work in either the Assembly or Machine Operating department within a CNC mechanical machine shop. Depending on your background and experience, you will either assemble machined parts by following detailed work instructions or operate CNC machinery to produce precision components. The department assignment will be determined after the interview to best align with your skills and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble machined parts accurately by following detailed work instructions specific to each product.
  • Operate CNC machinery to produce machined parts according to production requirements and quality standards.
  • Set up machines as needed, including preparing tools, fixtures, and materials for production runs.
  • Use hand tools and other basic equipment safely and effectively during assembly and production tasks.
  • Follow production line processes and standard operating procedures to meet output and quality targets.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings to ensure correct assembly and machining.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude to identify basic issues with parts, tools, or machines and report them promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with shop and safety guidelines.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies while working in a plant-based machine shop environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of orders.

Essential Skills

  • General manufacturing experience in at least one of the following areas: machine operation, general assembly, CNC operation, or manufacturing warehouse work.
  • Hands-on experience as a Machine Operator, CNC Operator, Mechanical Assembler, or General Assembler.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions consistently and accurately.
  • Proficiency using hand tools in a production or assembly environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical components and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with machine setup or willingness to learn setup tasks under guidance.
  • Capability to work on a production line and meet production and quality goals.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a CNC mechanical machine shop environment.
  • Experience with both mechanical assembly and machine operation.
  • Comfort working in a plant-based, traditional manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to adapt between assembly and machine operating tasks as needed.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with HR, hiring managers, and production teams.
  • Willingness to participate in a one-time interview with HR and the departmental hiring manager.

Work Environment

The role is based in a CNC mechanical machine shop with a traditional, plant-based, old-school feel. You will work around CNC machines, mechanical equipment, and production lines in a hands-on, shop-floor environment. You should be comfortable working in a manufacturing plant setting with typical shop noise, machinery, and physical activity associated with operating equipment and assembling parts.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Commack, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
