Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN with at least 3 years of Level 3 or 4 ICN experience and ventilator skills for a 13-week night shift contract in North Carolina.

Details

  • Level 3 or 4 ICN (Intensive Care Nursery) within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes premature infants (as early as 22 weeks gestation), surgical infants, and hypoxic injury cases
  • Special procedures include therapeutic hypothermia, nitric oxide therapy, UAC/UVC placement, PCL, Broviac, tracheostomy, GTT, and ostomy care
  • Equipment includes Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion for feedings, Servo Vents, HFOV, Baby Leo, and Giraffe warmers
  • EMR: Epic (also uses Pyxis, SBAR, and 4P)
  • Patient ratios: 1:2–4
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:15 AM (18:45–07:15), 36 hours per week
  • Self-scheduling per unit needs
  • Weekend requirement: 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays per 6-week period
  • Float requirement: Peds, PICU, or nursery caring for infants up to 12 months of age
  • No on-call requirements
  • 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 3 years of NICU experience in a Level 3 or 4 ICN required
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Two manager or supervisor professional references from within the past 12 months highly preferred; references from within the past 2 years are acceptable

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a adjusted rate
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours; weekly orientation sessions are provided
  • Pre-start modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must also be completed annually
  • Scrub color: navy blue or white
  • Travel pairs are permitted; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
