Neuberger’s Investment Technology team is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to embed directly with our equity portfolio management teams. You will sit at the intersection of technology and investments team — understanding how Portfolio Managers (PMs) think, what data they need, and where friction exists in their daily workflows — then ship production-grade applications that make them faster and better.
This is not a back-office engineering role. You will be on the desk, in the conversation, building what matters.
FDEs are embedded within client environments to diagnose real business problems, architect tailored solutions, and accelerate the adoption of our technology platforms. If you thrive on ownership, ambiguity, and building things that matter to the people using them, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
Client Engagement & Solutioning
Serve as the primary technical point of contact embedded within client or business-unit teams
Lead discovery sessions to deeply understand client workflows, pain points, and strategic goals
Translate complex business requirements into scalable, production-ready technical solutions
Drive technical demos, proof-of-concept (PoC) builds, and pilot deployments from concept through delivery
Engineering & Development
Write production-quality code to customize, integrate, or extend platform capabilities for client-specific use cases
Build APIs, data pipelines, and integrations between client systems and core platforms
Develop internal tooling and automation scripts to streamline repetitive client workflows
Contribute reusable components and frameworks back to the core engineering team
Deployment & Implementation
Own end-to-end technical implementation — from initial scoping through go-live
Configure and deploy solutions across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments
Ensure all solutions meet performance, security, and compliance requirements
Manage technical onboarding for new clients and business units
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as the voice of the client within product and engineering teams, shaping roadmap priorities
Partner with Product Management, Sales, and Pre-Sales teams during technical evaluations
Collaborate with Support teams to triage and resolve escalated technical issues
Required Skills and Experience
5–7 years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or a client-facing technical role — with a proven track record of writing production-quality code, owning end-to-end implementations, and delivering technical solutions in complex, fast-moving environments
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
Proficiency in two or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, TypeScript, Go)
Hands-on experience with SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT pipelines
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization tools (Docker/Kubernetes)
Solid understanding of REST and/or GraphQL API design and integration patterns
Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills — especially under client-facing pressure
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Background in financial services, asset management, or fintech environments
Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks
Exposure to LLM/AI tooling and prompt engineering
Prior experience in consulting, pre-sales engineering, or solutions architecture
Comfort working within Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks
