The Lab Supervisor II oversees the technical operations of laboratory services at Freestanding Emergency and Urgent Care facilities to ensure accurate, timely testing that supports patient diagnosis and treatment. The role provides leadership to laboratory staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and hospital partner requirements, and collaborates with other clinical leaders to support efficient operations and a patient-centered environment. The Lab Supervisor works in partnership with the Lab Manager, Program Director and Hospital Partner leadership and reports to the Lab Manager.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with the Program Director, supervises the day-to-day technical operations of assigned facilities to maximize service while minimizing cost.
- Ensure that accurate, adequate laboratory services are provided timely
- Use knowledge, experience, and imagination to implement change and improvements
- Travel between labs as needed and on a regular basis
- Oversee the receipt and acceptance or rejection of lab specimens
- Perform waived, moderate to high complexity procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunohematology, and cytology areas of laboratory for the analysis, treatment and diagnosis of disease
- Operate and maintain complex laboratory analyzers
- Make independent decisions to report normal and abnormal test results. Manage blood product inventory, test system reagents and lab supplies
- In concert with the CLIA Lab Director, and CLIA Technical Supervisor to monitor and revise the Laboratory Quality Plan
- Implement quality and service improvements
- Report and respond to all technical laboratory incidents, errors or complaints in a timely manner
- Function as a delegated CLIA Technical Consultant and General Supervisor to ensure all regulatory, licensing, safety and accreditation requirements are fulfilled for assigned cost center including proficiency testing, quality controls, method verification
- Write, review and implement cost center policies and procedures for approval by the CLIA Lab Director (technical policies) or administrative director (non-technical policies)
- Ensure that Hospital Partner polices are enforced. Perform personnel actions including hiring recommendations, performance evaluations, initial training, competency assessments, remedial and disciplinary actions
- Oversee and complete payroll functions. Schedule staff and make workstation assignments.
- Ensure that laboratory staff are supported and prepared to serve our customers. Develop self and individuals to optimize effectiveness. Assist with and monitor student educational activities.
- Represent laboratory management in meetings and on committees
- Work cooperatively with others to achieve organizational goals
- Perform all assigned duties in a caring and professional manner, serving as a model to create a customer focused environment
- Prepare, implement, and control the cost center budget in conjunction with the Program Director and the Laboratory Administrative Director
- Evaluate analyzers, software and test systems for capital purchase, lease and reagent rental agreements.
- Communicate effectively with administration and Leadership
- Follow and enforce all company policies
- Participate in monthly governing board and quarterly quality assurance meetings
- Ensure adherence to all law and regulations regarding employment, affirmative action, HIPAA, safety and drugs
- Rotate weekend supervisor call coverage
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory training
- Adhere to dress code, core values, policies & procedures, time & attendance guidelines and confidentiality

REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory or Medical Laboratory Science required. Master’s degree preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Must have experience to meet CLIA requirements for Technical Consultant/Supervisor and General Supervisor (dependent on credentials and testing performed)
- 5 or more years’ experience as a Technologist
- Previous supervisor experience preferred
