Job Description
Purpose Statement
The responsibility of the Maintenance - Plumber includes providing plumbing services, identifying repair and/or replacement needs, installing, repairing, and upgrading plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with accessibility, health and safety codes, and ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards.
Essential Functions
Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of plumbing systems for the purpose of determining efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for completing projects and work orders efficiently.
Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in plumbing/backflow systems for identifying repair and/or replacement needs.
Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects.
Fabricates equipment parts for specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders.
Installs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g., hot water heaters, valves, sinks, drainage systems).
Maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment for ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
Monitors buildings and facilities for evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars.
Performs preventive service, maintenance, and inspections on a variety of plumbing equipment.
Prepares written materials (e.g., repair status, backflow test logs).
Repairs a variety of items, systems and/or components (e.g., gas lines, classroom sinks, grease traps).
Requests equipment and supplies for maintaining inventory.
Responds to emergency situations during and after hours.
Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic math, technical information reading, document composition, facilitation of group discussions, and analysis of situations.
Skill in operating equipment used in plumbing, planning and managing projects, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and adhering to safety practices.
Ability to schedule activities and/or meetings, gather and collate data, and consider multiple factors when using equipment.
Responsibility
Works under limited supervision, guides and/or coordinates others, operates within a defined budget, and utilizes resources from other work units.
Work Environment
Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; requires 20% sitting, 35% walking, 45% standing; may involve temperature extremes and exposure to risk of injury and illness.
