Company Description Miriam Wedemeyer, OTR/L, provides consulting services to group homes for developmentally disabled adults. The practice emphasizes functional independence, meaningful engagement in daily activities, and collaborative work with the interdisciplinary team (IDT). Ms. Wedemeyer intends to retire soon, and seeks a qualified therapist to take over her contracts. She will work with you to ensure a good transition.
Role Description The Occupational Therapy Consultant is a part-time, contracted position based in Orange County, CA. The therapist sets his or her own schedule in accordance with client availability. The role involves conducting initial + quarterly or semi-annual evaluations, developing and updating intervention plans, and training home staff to carry out intervention plans.
The consultant will collaborate with home managers, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care, provide in-service education, and recommend adaptive equipment or environmental modifications. Responsibilities also include documenting services and progress in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining regulatory and professional standards, and creating quality improvement initiatives. The role may involve participation in case conferences.
The contracting therapist is responsible for maintaining a CA occupational therapist license and professional liability insurance. S/he must stay current with best practices in occupational therapy.
Qualifications
- Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in California.
- Experienced in clinical practice, including evaluation, treatment planning, and documentation.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for working with clients, homes, and IDT.
- Competent to work independently, manage caseload, and maintain boundaries and ethical standards.
- Experienced in consulting and program development, evidence-based OT assessments and interventions.
