Job Title: Store Manager in Training (SMIT)

Position Purpose:

The SMIT role is designed to prepare someone for managing their own store. Guided by a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands-on program provides the necessary skills and knowledge to operate a store effectively, achieve results, and develop and lead a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Full-Time Hourly Supervisory Role

Invest in your growth, as GNC does, through the SMIT program. This is a management fast-track, offering assignments and training to prepare you for advancement from SMIT to Store Manager.

Gain and demonstrate capability in:

  • Leading, coaching, and supporting your team to deliver exceptional service and guidance to customers.
  • Overseeing daily store operations, including business performance, product management, ensuring your team’s success with the right tools in collaboration with a Store Manager or District Manager.
  • Representing the GNC brand through expert product knowledge and promoting our "Live Well" ethos to customers.

Main duties include:

  • Engaging with leaders in training activities, projects, and goals gearing toward promotion readiness.
  • Enhancing the overall shopping experience, involving visual and operational aspects, current sales initiatives, and customer relationship development that spurs sales and repeat business practices like MYGNC Rewards.
  • Achieving and surpassing personal sales and productivity goals, alongside aiding sales associates in realizing their potential.
  • Building strong teams and showcasing leadership plus managerial skills such as ongoing performance feedback to store associates, recruiting, hiring, and performance handling.
  • Managing store opening, closing, and operating processes, adhering to GNC procedures, such as cash handling, inventory counting, and deposit handling.
  • Participating in community events like fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization's mission and initiatives.

Evaluation for further promotion to Store Manager is not guaranteed and will occur after 90 days, assessing factors including performance, opening availability, and readiness to accept promotions within the market area.

Working Conditions and Schedule:

  • Standing or walking for up to eight hours a day.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting—both below the waist and above shoulders.
  • Frequent repetitive hand movements and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 40 pounds. Push or pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Capability to climb ladders and routinely reach and bend.
  • Working temperatures can range between 50 to 85 degrees, especially in stock rooms.
  • Computer work can encompass up to 60% of daily activities.

SMITs have a standard work schedule of five days or forty hours a week, adhering to specific tasks as follows:

  • For mall and strip center stores: at least two weeknights until closing and a weekend night, plus an additional night.
  • Full shift work is required on Saturdays for strip center stores.
  • Mall SMITs should align their schedule with peak business days, particularly weekends.
  • At least one full Sunday workday per month for all SMITs.
  • Downtown stores require lunch hour availability from 11 am to 2 pm, weekdays, and one night a week until close if applicable, excluding Saturday requirements.
