Job Summary
Wright Construction Group is seeking a motivated and dependable Carpenter's Helper / Laborer to support carpentry crews on Federal and Commercial construction projects. This position assists skilled carpenters and foremen with daily tasks, material handling, site preparation, and general construction activities while maintaining jobsite safety, cleanliness, and productivity. This role is well‑suited for individuals looking to gain hands‑on experience in commercial carpentry and construction.
General Responsibilities
Support & Assistance
Assist carpenters and foremen with rough and finish carpentry tasks as directed
Carry, stage, and distribute materials, tools, and equipment to work areas
Hold, brace, clamp, and position materials during installation
Assist with layout activities under supervision, including measuring and marking materials
Site Preparation & Cleanup
Prepare jobsite areas for carpentry work, including barricading, protection, and setup
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite throughout the workday
Remove debris, scrap materials, and trash; assist with site cleanup and closeout
Assist with selective demolition and removal of existing materials as required
Material & Tool Handling
Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment from deliveries and vehicles
Assist with organizing and inventorying materials and hardware
Set up and break down ladders, scaffolding, work platforms, and temporary protection
Safely use basic hand tools and power tools under supervision
Installation Assistance
Assist with wood and metal framing activities
Help with installation of drywall, doors, frames, hardware, ceilings, bath accessories, and miscellaneous furnishings
Drill holes, cut materials, fasten components, and perform basic carpentry tasks as assigned
Safety & Compliance
Follow OSHA regulations, site‑specific safety rules, and company policies
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly at all times
Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks
Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, or incidents immediately
General Duties
Take direction from carpenters, foremen, and supervisors
Communicate effectively with crew members regarding tasks and materials
Work as part of a team to meet project schedules and quality requirements
Perform additional duties as assigned to support project completion
Requirements
Qualifications
Previous construction or labor experience preferred but not required
Willingness to learn carpentry skills and follow instructions
Basic understanding of construction tools, materials, and jobsite safety
Ability to use hand tools and basic power tools (or willingness to learn)
Ability to read measurements; exposure to construction drawings a plus
Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work from ladders/lifts, and perform physical labor
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Reliable transportation
Professional attitude and ability to work well with others
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed on active Federal and Commercial construction sites (indoor and outdoor). Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders or scaffolding, and working in proximity to construction noise, dust, and jobsite hazards.
