The Legal Support & HR Administration Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and development of the firm's Legal Practice Assistants (LPAs) and Paralegals. As a member of the integrated Human Resources and Talent team, this role plays a critical part in delivering a consistent, high-quality employee experience while ensuring operational excellence across the firm's legal support function.

The Manager oversees a legal support team of approximately 75 professionals and partners closely with attorneys, practice leaders, Human Resources, Talent, and firm leadership to support recruiting, onboarding, performance management, workforce planning, employee engagement, and professional development. Success in this role requires a collaborative leadership style, strong operational management skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement within a team-based HR and Talent model.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 75 Legal Practice Assistants and Paralegals across multiple practice groups.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that aligns with the firm's values and service standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, establish development goals, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Partner with Human Resources on employee relations matters, performance improvement initiatives, and talent management strategies.
  • Promote accountability, engagement, and professional growth through effective leadership and communication.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Partner with Human Resources and Talent colleagues to support recruitment efforts, including candidate evaluation, interviewing, and hiring decisions.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities to ensure a seamless and engaging experience for new legal support professionals.
  • Collaborate with practice leaders and administrative departments to facilitate successful integration and productivity of new team members.

Training & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with HR and Talent partners to develop and deliver training programs for legal support staff.
  • Ensure team members remain current on firm policies, legal technology, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support career development initiatives, mentoring programs, succession planning, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement development strategies that strengthen individual and team performance.

Staffing & Workforce Management

  • Manage daily staffing assignments and workload distribution across practice groups to ensure efficient utilization of legal support resources.
  • Coordinate staffing coverage for planned and unplanned absences while responding to changing business needs.
  • Partner with firm leadership on workforce planning, staffing optimization, and headcount management to support strategic business objectives.
  • Monitor staffing trends and recommend process improvements that enhance operational effectiveness.

Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with attorneys, practice leaders, and administrative departments to deliver responsive, high-quality legal support services.
  • Collaborate across the HR and Talent team to align processes, improve communication, and enhance service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve operational efficiency, and implement best practices across offices and practice groups.
  • Participate in firm-wide HR and Talent initiatives, projects, and organizational priorities as needed.
