Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a School-Based Behavioral Health Counselor II or Therapist to provide behavioral and therapeutic support for children in our Madrona Day Treatment school program . As a key member of the team, you will work closely with students, families, and school personnel to create a supportive environment that fosters emotional regulation, social skills, and academic success. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess referred students and connect them to appropriate services, including medical, behavioral health, and substance use supports.
  • Conduct intakes and assessments as needed for students entering services.
  • Provide brief intervention, crisis support, and trauma-informed care during the school day.
  • Deliver individual, group, and family counseling using approaches such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement student support plans.
  • Support behavioral interventions that help students follow school expectations and improve social and emotional functioning.
  • Provide one-to-one support for students, including academic or transition-related needs.
  • Partner with families through meetings, outreach, and coordination with external systems and services.
  • Facilitate social skills and therapeutic groups focused on emotional regulation and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to school faculty through observations, presentations, and participation in team meetings.
  • Coordinate with outside providers, including medical, behavioral health, and developmental services.
  • Document services and student progress in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Support program operations as needed, including organizing activities, supplies, or student programming.

Behavioral Health Counselor II Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Psychology , social services, or behavioral health field.

EXPERIENCE : Experienced (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor   (can be obtained after hire)

Per the RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.

Therapist Minimum Qualifications :

EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Psychology , social services, or a mental health field.

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor   (can be obtained after hire)

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

Awareness of or working knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Rational/Emotive therapy, behavioral modification, applied behavior analysis, and development theory is strongly preferred.

SKILLS:

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.

Communication   Communicates clearly and concisely.

Computer skills   Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.

ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.

Able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.
