Development Accountant

What You'll Do
As a Development Accountant at Wendover, you'll play a critical role in supporting the financial success of our development projects. You'll partner across Land Development, Design Development and Construction to ensure financial accuracy, accountability, and insight throughout the development lifecycle of our communities.
From managing development costs and funding draws to preparing financial statements, you'll help provide the financial foundation that enables Wendover Housing Partners to fulfill its mission of creating housing opportunities that change lives.
This role reports to the Vice President of Accounting & Finance and works closely with functional leaders across the organization to support strategic decision-making, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
Shape How You'll Make an Impact
Maintaining a master draw workbook that ties together the approved budget, all prior draws, current draw amounts, contingency usage, and funding sources
Prepare monthly lender draw requests with appropriate backup
Daily correspondence with lenders regarding the draw package
Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice review, coding, payment processing, and vendor reconciliations
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements for assigned development projects
Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost optimization
Collaborate with functional stakeholders to provide financial expertise and partnership
Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting efficiency
Analyze financial performance, identify variances, and provide insights that support operational and strategic decision-making

Qualifications & What You’ll Bring
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction or development accounting
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Experience with contractor pay applications (AIA G702/G703)
Familiarity with key construction accounting components, including:
Schedule of Values (SOV)
Approved change orders
Construction budgets
Draw summaries
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams
High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
Ability to balance strategic thinking with strong operational execution

Demonstrated sound judgment and responsible stewardship of company resources

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, on-site role based in our Altamonte Springs headquarters with occasional travel to properties and project sites.
Frequent interaction with team members, lenders, investors, auditors, vendors, and business partners in person, virtually, and through written communication
Extended periods working at a computer while preparing financial analyses, reports, and reconciliations
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods
Must maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive financial information
