B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

As a Pharmacy Technician, working under general supervision of a hospital pharmacist, you will perform paraprofessional pharmaceutical duties in the acute and chronic care for adult psychiatric patients. Duties will be in strict accordance with federal and state laws, established accreditation standards, and policies, procedures and regulations of South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Mental Health (SCBHDD OMH) and this facility.

Assist in routine functions of patient care as related to the procurement, dispensing, inventory, profiling and recording required for pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities for the Pharmacy Technician:

  • Prepare patient medication orders for dispensing (includes all patient orders, unit stock, automated dispensing cabinet maintenance, controlled substances, and editing and posting transactions, as assigned)
  • Provide assistance in the delivery and transport of patient medications, leave and discharge medications, unit stock requisitions, controlled substances, and medication to automated dispensing cabinets to SCBHDD OMH patient units
  • Maintain inventory control of pharmaceutical products. Assist in the ordering and receiving of medications. Perform functions of drug procurement, including but not limited to order pharmaceutical products daily from the prime vendor, maintain contact with the prime vendor during storages and reports to pharmacy staff, answer inquiries about stock, help resolve discrepancies concerning pharmaceutical orders, receive pharmaceutical products and processing invoices.

Provide documentation to meet drug recall and inventory requirements.

  • Assist in the completion of mandatory annual physical inventory of the pharmacy. Check and revolve out-of-date drugs from the pharmacy. Coordinate pharmaceutical product returns to the prime vendor and reverse distributor for pick up and credit. Maintain drug recall files and removal of these items from stock. Conduct and document monthly checks for expired medications in all drug storage areas.
  • Repackages medications and assist in compounding of pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Must be familiar with, understand, and comply with all policies and procedures affecting the scope of responsibility as compiled in SCBHDD OMH policy and procedure directives and the pharmacy department's policy and procedure directives. Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy operations. Maintain clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, including MANDT/MAPS, CPR, and SCEIS Learning Modules.
  • Maintain competency in the use of all pharmacy resources, including computer software and hardware and other technology.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma and prior work experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Registration with the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/carry/push up to fifty (50) pounds may be required to lift more during times of emergencies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) to three (3) flights of stairs and have manual dexterity.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain a Pharmacy Technician certification.
  • Have extensive knowledge of medications to include use, possible side effects and/or reactions, dosing information, etc.
  • Be able to transcribe and interpret medication orders.
  • National and State Pharmacy Technician Certification.
