Machinist - Evening

Pay range: $23.25 - $30.25/hr 2nd Shift

Primary Functions

Read blueprints and sketches to produce required part specifications

Collaborate with shop personnel to support manufacturing of production parts

Analyze and solve fixture and tooling problems in manufacturing areas

Perform riveting, de‑riveting, installation, and removal of insulation

Operate and adjust manual machining equipment (Lathe, Bridgeport mill, Drill press) safely and according to guidelines

Perform set‑ups and moderate maintenance on equipment; troubleshoot when required

Maintain proper coolant and oil levels of machines

Use specified gauges to ensure parts meet stated tolerances

Participate in continuous improvement projects on the shop floor, including daily 5S

Assist in training new employees

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in manufacturing processes

Must comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) — applicants must be U.S. persons (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee)

No relocation benefits; only candidates within 50 miles of Beltsville will be considered

Position Criteria

Blueprint reading, including GD&T knowledge

Working knowledge of heat treating and metallurgical principles

Understanding of steel types and their applications in plant operations

Knowledge of metal cutting, inserts, feeds, and speeds

Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC)

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds daily

Preferred Qualifications

Tool and Die experience

Experience in custom fabrication

Physical/Environmental Demands

All the time:

Work with cutting and assembly machinery

Full use of both hands, walking, finger dexterity, good vision

Inside work

Most of the time:

Lift 0–35 pounds about 3 times per day

Some of the time:

Push/move with assistance 50+ pounds about 2 times per week

Exposure to dust or fumes

Climb ladders and stairs

Stand, bend, or stoop

Rarely:

Reach above shoulder level

Drive automotive equipment

Never:

Lift 50+ pounds unassisted
