Job Title: Optical Field Tech
Compensation: $17.00 per hour, plus .60 cent/mi mileage reimbursement
Employment Status: Part-time, 20-30 hours per week (M-F 9 am-3 pm)/ Seasonal: August-May

Supervisor's Title: Operations Coordinator
Kids Vision for Life St. Louis is looking for a committed and compassionate individual who is excited to make a real difference in the lives of local students by providing access to free comprehensive eye care via school visits onboard our Mobile Vision Clinic. KVFL Team Leads work in the field alongside a motivated team of staff and volunteers to deliver direct vision services to students in need in our community. Previous optical experience is not required and all skills needed will be covered during employee training. KVFL is committed to providing students with essential access to vision care to prepare them for success in and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Arrive prepared with all required materials, in a timely manner, to all scheduled screening and exam operation days at local area elementary, middle, and high schools
- Train, supervise, and support volunteers on screening and exam days.
- Communicate with school nurses, teachers, and parents to explain KVFL operational procedures and answer any questions as needed.
- Prepare Missouri state vision examination forms before scheduled exam day, perform required pre-testing on students on board the mobile clinic, and help students shop for the perfect pair of eyeglasses that fits their face and personality.
- Prepare individual school rosters to record screening and exam results for each student on KVFL operation days and send them to the Operations Manager when each day has concluded.
- Prepare lab ticket orders and assist with mailing frames to optical lab
- Assist at KVFL HQ to check in glasses and prepare them for dispensing
- Perform quality checks on glasses received from the optical lab
- Deliver returned glasses from the optical lab to the assigned school and dispense them to each student.
- Take pictures and videos of students, with signed media releases, on operation days to capture the unique stories of the children we serve in our community.
- Prepare and restock screening bags weekly.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Associate Degree or higher preferred
2. Minimum 1-year experience in working with elementary school children
3. Reliable independent transportation - position requires daily travel throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.
4. Must have a personal laptop computer.
5. Entry-level PC skills to include MS Office, Windows, Word, and Excel
6. Time management, communication, and planning skills.
7. Self-motivated with the ability to drive tasks to completion.
8. Optical experience is a plus!
9. Must love working with children and have a passion for giving back to the community.
