Elementary Educator

The Laurel School is seeking a dedicated Lower Elementary teacher to lead our K–2 students in a progressive, student-centered learning environment. In this role, you will plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons across core subject areas while building the kind of trusting relationships that allow young children to take risks, ask questions, and grow with confidence.

You will work closely with a co-teacher and instructional assistant, sharing responsibility for classroom culture, individual student support, and family communication. Our K–2 students are curious, active learners who thrive in a structured yet flexible environment where play, inquiry, and literacy are woven together throughout the day. Responsibilities include:

• Plan and teach integrated, inquiry-driven lessons across reading, writing, math, science, and social studies
• Build a warm, structured classroom environment grounded in clear routines and high expectations
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of K–2 students
• Collaborate daily with a co-teacher and instructional assistant to support all learners
• Maintain regular, warm communication with families about student progress and school life
• Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development
• Contribute to the broader school community through events, field experiences, and schoolwide initiatives

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a related field
• 3 or more years of experience teaching K–2
• Commitment to progressive education philosophy, or genuine willingness to learn
• Private school experience preferred; public school candidates welcome
