EMT- Emergency Medical Technician

Provide effective, timely pre-hospital basic life support care and transport for those who are ill or injured, following standards set by relevant authorities and industry guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform thorough assessments of patients to identify signs and symptoms of illness or injury and support other medical staff.
  • Deliver efficient basic life support care within licensure scope, following approved protocols before and during transit.
  • Ensure careful patient handling during transfer to and from the ambulance.
  • Facilitate safe transport of patients to medical facilities.
  • Efficiently transfer patient and care information to receiving personnel at the destination.
  • Record all patient conditions and treatments in EMS reports and document non-medical patient information as needed.
  • Regularly conduct inventory and test equipment to ensure all items are present, clean, and functioning properly.
  • After transport, complete duties to prepare the ambulance and equipment for service.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all basic life support equipment on the ambulance and ensure their correct use.
  • Report necessary repairs for electronic or mechanical issues to maintenance, supervisors, and other ambulance personnel.
  • Use basic extrication tools and methods for patient access if needed, in the absence of qualified personnel.
  • Control the patient's environment to reduce further risks and manage bystander behavior in situations where no other qualified personnel are available.
  • Drive the ambulance safely, adhering to guidelines to ensure occupant safety.
  • Comply with FCC regulations when using electronic communication tools.
  • Attend all mandatory scheduled meetings.
  • Perform station and station grounds duties as assigned.
  • Order necessary supplies and equipment to maintain inventory for the station and ambulance.
  • Complete cleaning tasks for the ambulance interior and exterior as required.
  • Finish all company-required reports and logs and share necessary information with other personnel.
  • As an approved preceptor, guide new employees and EMT-Basic students as directed.
  • Follow all qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities as stated in the EMT-Basic job description.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • National and/or state certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, per state requirements.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license, depending on state requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with colleagues and management. Capable of writing simple reports and presenting information to others in small settings.
  • Knowledgeable of company protocols and safety policies.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in various conditions.
