Accounting Specialist

Salary range $2 8 – $ 31 /hour, commensurate with experience
Part-time, o n-site position, 3 days a wee k
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is seeking an Accounting Specialist to manage the full cycle of accounts receivable and payable while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the organization's finance function. This role is an important contributor to the Society's mission-driven work, supporting the financial health of an organization dedicated to serving individuals and families in need.
Accounting Specialist Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or a comparable level of experience
4+ years of accounts payable or general accounting experience; non-profit experience a plus
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
Solid knowledge of basic accounting principles, including experience with expense report management and corporate card reconciliation
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive financial information

Accounting Specialist Job Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
Generate, review, and distribute accurate customer invoices in a timely manner
Monitor accounts to identify outstanding balances and follow up on overdue payments
Process incoming payments via check, ACH, credit card, and wire transfer
Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure all payments are properly accounted for
Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and client disputes
Maintain organized, accurate records in accordance with company policies
Accounts Payable
Review, verify, and process vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance
Maintain financial records and reconcile vendor statements
Prepare and process payments via check, ACH, and wire transfers
Respond to vendor inquiries and cultivate strong, professional vendor relationships
Support 1099 preparation, month-end close activities, and audit requests
Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions
Payroll
Provide general payroll support functions as needed
