Barricade Laborer

Entry level position responsible for many aspects of highway traffic control including safety cone and barricade set up and removal. Grooving taping and painting highway markers, installation of permanent and temporary highway signs, repairs and maintenance of equipment. Must have a valid driver’s license and able to drive a 16 ft. truck and operate a forklift. Contributes to the Team effort for success by working wherever they are needed when they are available.

Requirements

• Able to accept and use clear and concise directions in order to complete work assignments
• Able to complete all required daily, weekly and monthly paperwork in a timely and effective manner with little or no corrections from the Superintendent and their Super Foreman.
• Able to respond positively to any inquires and/or complaints from the Field Superintendents, Clients, Accounting Department and three Vice Presidents or Owner.
• Able to make decisions based on all available facts, situations and other resources, such as their Superintendents and their Super Foreman that result in the resolution of the problems at hand
• Able to travel to and from locations as needed
• Able to set realistic deadlines and follow up to insure quality results
• Able to complete jobs from start to finish
• Able to successfully train on the operation of any piece of equipment on their job
• Able to work outside requiring tolerance of outside temperatures including excess heat, cold and precipitation
• Able to anticipate problems on the job before they happen in order to avoid wasted time and materials
• Able to make decisions that resolve the problem without attacking the person
• Able to maintain confidentiality and be above reproach with regards to all V.K. Knowlton Construction and Utilities, Inc financial matters
• Must have a valid driver’s license

Reporting Relationships

• Laborer reports to their Super Foreman on their assigned jobs

Responsibilities

• Reads plans with the drivers in mind so that everything works
• Makes sure barricades are visible and are needed
• Complete all daily, weekly and monthly tasks
• Ensure all required paperwork and conditions are met and followed as designed
• Ensure the data entered is accurate and if there are questions concerning their accuracy, resolve the issues found
• Follow up on everyone on the crew to insure they are doing their jobs, taking their breaks when possible, and being a productive worker
• Communicate only essential information required outside of the office and field, and maintain complete confidentiality on all V.K. Knowlton Inc. data

Duties

• Follows print drawings and blueprints
• Installs and maintain SWPPP plans
• Follow the drawings and specifications from the estimate/bid
• Respond to the Engineer, General Contractor and their team to resolve issues
• Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
• Must have a valid driver’s license to drive a company vehicle.
• Follows detailed shop drawings and can check elevations
• Revises work duties per approved change orders to the client and communicates back to the Superintendents and Super Foreman
• Hauls machines to the job sites (CDL Class A driver’s license)
• Maintains and insures all OSHA standards are met

• Quality of finished jobs meet or exceed standards
• Deadlines are met or exceeded
• Daily, Weekly Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annually and Annual reports completed and filed correctly
• Positive feedback received from Superintendents, Super Foreman and Clients on communications and exchange of information
