The Michigan Department of Treasury seeks a Financial Analyst to support critical accounting and reporting functions within the Revenue and Tax Accounting Section. This position is responsible for performing in-depth research, analyzing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and making necessary correcting entries to ensure Treasury systems report accurately to SIGMA (Statewide Integrated Governmental Management Application) System Financial.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Preparing, reviewing, and evaluating the financial impact of adjusting entries on taxpayer accounts.
- Using system applications to analyze, verify, and maintain accurate financial records.
- Ensuring data accuracy and reconciliation between Treasury systems and SIGMA Financial.
- Providing backup support for Bank-to-System reconciliation and System-to-SIGMA Financial reconciliation processes.

Note: The listed salary range reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (P11) level. Qualifying years of experience are counted post–bachelor’s degree. Candidates will be reviewed to determine the appropriate level for placement. The final salary will be based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

PLEASE NOTE: New Hires for the Financial Analyst classification will receive a one-time signing bonus of $2,500. The bonus will be paid out as $1,250 gross pay adjustment on the employee's first pay warrant and the remaining $1,250 will be paid upon completion of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory service. If the employee leaves within one year of the appointment, they will be required to pay back the entire bonus.
Required Education And Experience
Education for Financial Analyst 9-P11
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 12 semester (18 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: accounting, finance, or economics.
Experience For Financial Analyst 9-P11
Note: A position is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree. Qualifying ‘professional experience’ is only taken into consideration post-bachelor’s degree.
Financial Analyst 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Financial Analyst 10
One year of professional experience providing a systematic review, analysis, interpretation, and/or evaluation of budgets, mortgages, loans, or other financial data, equivalent to a Financial Analyst 9.
Financial Analyst P11
Two years of professional experience providing a systematic review, analysis, interpretation, and/or evaluation of budgets, mortgages, loans, or other financial data, equivalent to a Financial Analyst, including one year equivalent to a Financial Analyst 10.
Alternate Education And Experience
Education and Experience for Financial Analyst (Departmental Trainee) 9 (FOR CLASSIFIED STATE OF MICHIGAN EMPLOYEES ONLY)
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of experience as an Accounting Technician E9 and/or 10, Account Examiner E10 and/or 11, Account Examiner Supervisor 12, or Office Supervisor 9-10 (with the bookkeeping subclass code); or, one year of experience as an Account Examiner Supervisor 13, or Office Supervisor 11-12 (with the bookkeeping subclass code).
Educational Substitution - College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.
