Roofing Technician
Richland County School District One, South Carolina Classification Description Classification Title: Roofing Technician Class Code: Grade 113 240 Days Salary Range: $35,809.15 - $51, 470.40
General Statement of Job: Performs roofing inspection and repair for Richland One Facilities Management Department while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, schedules, and standards. Inspects and diagnoses roofing issues to prevent property damage due to leaks or other contributing causes. Reports to the Facilities Management Roofing Crew Leader.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Performs general roofing installation and repair, including but not limited to, BUR, TPO, PVC, Asphalt, bituminous, metal, and shingle roofs (may include removal of existing roofing materials and surface preparation for new material installation). Also includes associated trim, flashing, fascia, and soffits.
- Repair, replace, clean canopies, gutters/down spouts, as needed.
- Diagnose and address issues related to roof leaks, damage, or improper installation.
- Inspects all district roofs, works with contract roofing crews as needed.
- Reviews work in progress and after completion to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, standards, and schedules.
- Responds to after hour, weekend, and holiday emergencies as needed.
- Estimates materials and labor for job assignments.
- Provides recommendations to Crew Leader for future roofing replacement and repair.
- Obtains supplies as needed.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including work orders, diagrams, specifications, accident reports, daily reports, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment, such as work truck, scissor and articulating lifts, telephone, ladders, hand tools, and general roofing related equipment.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and use of work order system to receive and complete roofing maintenance requests.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, subordinates, district administrators and staff, students, and sales representatives.
Complies with all building codes, federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and other district directives.

Minimum Education and Training
Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three years of experience in commercial roofing installation/repair or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid state driver's license without moving violations.
Required Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including standard roofing repair equipment and tools, hand and power tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work; work involves walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing and working from elevated roofs, etc., and performing manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.

Job Knowledge: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Facilities Management Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Roofing Crew Leader. Is knowledgeable in the codes, laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the department through effective supervision. Has knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of and skill of roofing installation and repair. Is able to perform duties with extreme attention to detail and safety. Knows how to plan, organize, and direct a roofing crew. Knows how to apply supervisory concepts and principles. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments, as required. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods, and regulations. Has the ability to use independent judgment as needed in performing routine and non-routine tasks. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret codes, specifications, instructions, and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
