Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role manufactures precision parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions using a variety of CNC and manual machine tools. You will set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders, and computer-controlled equipment while applying mathematical and geometrical calculations to achieve tight tolerances. The position requires careful use of precision measuring instruments, monitoring machine performance, and inspecting finished parts to ensure they meet stringent specifications. You may also support complex and prototype machining activities and help establish stable, repeat-production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC milling and turning centers in accordance with complex blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Manufacture detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions using CNC and mechanically controlled machine tools and equipment.
  • Retrieve all job-related information, including job routings, part drawings, tool lists, and work instructions, and ensure they are followed accurately.
  • Select and utilize appropriate cutting tools, workholding devices, and fixtures for various materials and machining processes.
  • Set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders, vertical and horizontal mills, and other machine tools using mathematical and geometrical calculations.
  • Install, align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpieces to ensure proper setup and safe operation.
  • Monitor machine feed, speed, and performance during operation, making necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to check and maintain tolerances and verify critical dimensions.
  • Calculate dimensions and offsets using measuring instruments and apply G-code and CNC program edits as needed to achieve desired results.
  • Measure and examine completed products for defects, ensuring all surfaces and features conform to engineering specifications and GD&T requirements.
  • Perform precise measurements and inspections, including CMM operation where applicable, to ensure parts meet stringent quality control standards.
  • Document manufactured quantities, process steps, and any required information accurately in the ERP system.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize machining efficiency, reduce scrap, and enhance process reliability.
  • Assist with developing new machining methods, tooling solutions, and setups for complex parts and prototype or experimental activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, consistently adhering to all safety requirements and shop protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve machining issues and support production goals.
  • Perform other machining and shop-related duties as assigned to support overall operations.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of machinist experience working with CNC and manual equipment.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC mills and CNC lathes, including vertical and horizontal mills.
  • Hands-on experience with machine setup, machine operation, and machining processes for a variety of materials.
