## About the role and where you'll work
Join Cleveland Clinic Akron General as a Medical Assistant – Oncology in the Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology. This team includes physicians, nurses, researchers and advanced practice providers who specialize in diagnosing and treating patients with cancers or disorders of the blood. You will help create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors while supporting medication management, patient monitoring and administrative workflows.

A caregiver in this position works from Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. No weekends or holidays.
### What you will do day to day
You will assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests and documenting patient care. You will monitor and communicate changes in patient condition and may administer specific medications under the direction of the provider. Maintaining equipment, medical supplies and examination areas will be part of your routine, as will assisting in pre-visit planning by updating the health maintenance tab.
You will also perform administrative and clerical duties such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration to help the clinic run smoothly.
### Qualifications we are looking for
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting Program OR military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
- Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience
- Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Medical Assisting Certification
- Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic externship
### Physical and workplace expectations
Manual dexterity to operate office equipment is required. The role may require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting, and good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. The position is described as Light Work
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
