Role Description The Outside Sales Representative is a full-time, on-site role based in Portsmouth, VA. This position is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, meeting with prospective and existing customers at their locations, and conducting sales presentations to demonstrate products and solutions. The role includes managing the sales cycle from initial contact through proposal, negotiation, and closing, while maintaining accurate records of activities and pipeline in the company’s CRM or tracking tools. Day-to-day tasks involve building and maintaining strong customer relationships, providing responsive customer service, coordinating with internal teams on pricing and delivery, and staying current on product offerings and industry trends. The representative is expected to meet or exceed sales targets and contribute to the overall growth of the company’s presence in the region.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Sales Presentations and Communication, with the ability to explain technical or equipment solutions clearly and persuasively.
- Proven ability in Relationship Building and Customer Service, focused on long-term customer satisfaction and retention.
- Experience in New Business Development, including prospecting, lead generation, and converting opportunities into closed sales.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field, manage territory activities, and prioritize multiple opportunities effectively.
- Basic understanding of industrial or material handling equipment, or a strong willingness to learn technical product details.
- Proficiency with common business software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, CRM systems) and accurate documentation of sales activities.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within the assigned territory for customer visits.
- High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is beneficial.
- Prior outside sales or B2B sales experience is strongly preferred.
