Groundskeeper/Landscaper (3 Vacancies) (Re-announcement)

A full‑time position in the Grounds Maintenance Department, responsible for maintaining the college campus and remote locations such as Grice Marine Lab, Stono Preserve, and Patriot Point athletic facilities.

Job Purpose

Maintain the grounds of a formally landscaped college campus, including routine maintenance such as policing the grounds, mowing, fertilizing, mulching, pruning, weeding, and renovating beds as needed. Plant and maintain container gardens and flower beds on campus.

Responsibilities

Water, fertilize, deadhead, and weed plant beds and container gardens.

Operate landscape equipment and tools, including mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, shears, and chainsaws.

Apply fertilizer and mulch, seed, plant, and transplant plants and trees.

Respond to work orders promptly and complete work order information using a mobile electronic device.

Keep walkways, plant beds, and lawns clean and free of debris.

Assist in the upkeep of college vehicles and power equipment.

Maintain a safe work environment by following safety procedures and OSHA regulations.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Knowledge of commonly used landscape plants and irrigation systems is preferred. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Experience with landscape equipment and tools.

Basic computer skills and experience with e‑mail.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.

Experience with online work order systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift and handle heavy equipment up to 50 pounds, climb steps and ladders, bend, reach, and stoop, and stand and walk around the campus for long periods. Some weekend, overtime, and call‑back work may be required.

Additional Information
