Description JOB SUMMARY
The Paramedic will support treatment in the hospital emergency department. The Paramedic will be required to assist with patient care treatment in conjunction with a Registered Nurse (RN that directs plan of care team goals and performance.)
The Paramedic shall cover the range of services provided in a medical treatment facility in accordance with O.C.G.A. and 31-11-59 which outlines the services of Paramedic in hospitals and defined hospital specific duties. In addition, the paramedic promotes and restores patients health and the overall patient experience by collaborating with physicians, RNs, and multi-disciplinary team members and providing support to patients, families, and significant others.

- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.

GENERAL SKILLS
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Strong written and verbal skills.

- General environment:
Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
- Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories.
- Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
- Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriated action on waived test results.
- Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
