Middle School Language Arts Teacher (Hoyt)

About the position

DMPS is seeking a teacher for the 26-27 school year to teach 7th and 8th grade Language Arts. This position requires a K-8, 6-8, or 5-12 English/Language Arts endorsement. The General Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social-emotional needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
• Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
• Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
• Monitor student learning on a daily basis.
• Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
• Communicate with families on a regular basis.
• Participate in professional development.
• Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
• Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
• K-8, 6-8, or 5-12 English/Language Arts endorsement.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous classroom teaching experience.
• Experience in an urban school district.
