Azure Cloud Engineer
12 Month Contract (Possible extension
Location: Hybrid (Client located in San Jose, CA)
Work Shift: Monday through Friday (8:00AM – 5:00PM PST)
- Must be able to work on W-2 basis

About the Role
A global automobile manufacturing company has an immediate, long-term contract opportunity for a Technical Solution Architect in San Jose, CA. You’ll help deliver robust Azure cloud infrastructure and data platform solutions that support advanced data ingestion, analytics, and operational workflows. This is a hands-on, senior engineering role with DevSecOps, compliance, and privacy focus.
Job Description
Platform Ownership
- Lead the evolution of Azure cloud infrastructure, Databricks data platform, CI/CD pipelines, and operational tooling.
- Support and improve data processing, analytics, and validation workflows.
- Ensure platforms support privacy, compliance (GDPR, data residency, retention), and audit readiness.
Domain Areas
Azure Cloud Infrastructure: Manage multi-subscription, multi-region environments using Terraform.
Databricks Data Platform: Oversee workspace configuration, Spark pipelines, job automation, cluster policies, and key vault integrations.
Engineering Platform: Drive Azure DevOps pipelines, approvals, release management, and containerized app deployments.
Security/Compliance/Privacy: Implement least-privilege practices, secure secrets handling, private networking, audit evidence, and privacy-first data design.
Core Skills
Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineering
- Design/operate Azure across multiple subscriptions/environments.
- Maintain networking: VNets, subnets, NSGs, endpoints, DNS zones, route tables, service endpoints.
- Manage Azure services: Web Apps, Container Registry, Storage, PostgreSQL, Key Vault, Entra ID.
- Author reusable Terraform modules and enforce IaC standards.
Databricks & Data Platform
- Architect Databricks workspaces, clusters, SQL warehouses, and permissions.
- Build/maintain Spark and Databricks pipelines for large-scale data processing.
- Optimize data workflows for performance, cost, and governance.
DevOps Ownership & Delivery
- Own delivery: multi-stage YAML pipelines, service connections, branch policies.
- Standardize release and deployment management.
- Containerize and deploy applications using Docker.
Security, Compliance, & Privacy
- Design for secure-by-default operation: network segmentation, private connectivity, secret isolation.
- Prepare for security assessments and support audits/remediation.
- Drive GDPR, data minimization, retention, and other privacy requirements.
Reliability & Operations
- Triage and resolve issues: infrastructure, pipelines, apps, authentication, networking.
- Right-size compute/storage, optimize cost, and uphold operational hygiene.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, incident writeups, and engineering standards.
Collaboration
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, cybersecurity, privacy, legal, and governance teams.
- Mentor peers on Terraform, Azure, Databricks, and DevSecOps practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or distributed systems.
- Production ownership of Azure/Databricks in multi-environment/multi-region setups.
- Experience in regulated, data-intensive enterprise environments.
- Security, audit, and vulnerability remediation for cloud platforms.
- Privacy-aware platform design (e.g., GDPR, cross-border constraints).
Technical Skills
Microsoft Azure: App Service, Container Registry, Key Vault, PostgreSQL, Storage, VNets, NSGs, private endpoints/DNS, route tables, Entra ID, app registrations, RBAC.
Terraform: module authoring, multi-environment variables, state management, azurerm/Databricks providers.
Databricks: workspace admin, Unity Catalog, jobs, policies, secret scopes.
Apache Spark: pipeline design, performance tuning.
Containers: Docker authoring, registry usage, Azure Web Apps for Containers.
Azure DevOps: YAML pipelines, service connections, branch policies.
Security & Compliance: threat modeling, secrets, vulnerability management, evidence collection, incident readiness.
Programming: Python, SQL, Bash.
Git: branching, code reviews.
Streaming/Event Systems: Kafka or equivalent.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Kubernetes/AKS
- Observability: Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics
- PIM, policy-as-code, container/compliance scanning, FinOps/Azure Cost Management
- Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, or automotive cybersecurity/data governance frameworks
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
