Defender Services is seeking a PART TIME SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER for a private school in the COLUMBIA, SC.

Shifts: Saturday 7AM to 3PM and Sunday 8AM to 4PM

Requirements:

  • Must meet the State of South Carolina requirements for an unarmed private security officer
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have the ability to pass extensive background check, including criminal history check, employment, and education verification, and meet requirements for access to sensitive information
  • Must pass the following post-offer/pre-employment testing in accordance with assigned site requirements/regulations:

Physical examination administered by a licensed physician. Examination will determine that candidate has the ability to:

  • Work extended hours
  • Work alone while unarmed
  • Work and perform under stress
  • Work in adverse weather
  • Stop, question, and detain individuals
  • Respond to emergencies with unplanned strenuous physical activity
  • Climb stairs in an emergency
  • Lift up to 25 pounds
  • Sit or stand alone for at least two hours
  • Ability to function in emergencies and unusual environments.
  • The examinee shall demonstrate stability and capacity for the following:
  • Mental alertness and emotional stability
  • Acuity of senses; ability of expression to allow rapid, accurate communication by spoken, written, audible, visible, or tactile signals
  • Physique, stamina, motor power, range of motion, and dexterity to allow safe execution of duties.
  • Distant visual acuity in both eyes shall be correctable to 20/25
  • Distant visual acuity in each eye shall be correctable to 20/30
  • Near visual acuity in both eyes shall be correctable to 20/30
  • Near visual acuity in each eye shall be correctable to 20/35
  • The use of corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses shall not interfere with an individual’s ability to effectively perform assigned security duties during normal or emergency operations
  • Peripheral visual fields 120° or greater
  • Color vision adequate to distinguish among red, green, and orange-yellow signal lamps and any other coding required for safe operation. No hearing loss in the better ear greater than 30 decibels average for speech frequencies 500, 1000, 2000 Hz in better ear.
  • Hearing aids are acceptable provided suitable testing procedures demonstrate auditory acuity equivalent to the above stated requirement of the facility
  • No use of medications that while the individual is working, that would incapacitate, alter mental status, judgment or decrease physical or mental response times (e.g., anxiety relief via sedatives, narcotic pain medications, etc.).
  • Individuals with medical conditions which may impact the ability to perform the essential functions of the job shall provide medical evidence that the condition is controlled with proper medication and/or treatment and/or reasonable accommodations. The site physician may require the candidate to obtain a letter of clearance from his/her personal physician attesting that the candidate can perform the essential elements of the job.
  • Security personnel are required to meet site fitness for duty program standards, including pre-employment testing, post-accident/incident testing, reasonable suspicion or aberrant behavior testing (includes breathalyzer and drug screening).
