Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Structural Section Head / Project Manager to lead a team of structural bridge engineers while managing the successful delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects. This leadership role combines technical expertise, project management, people leadership, and business development to drive operational excellence and sustainable growth.

The successful candidate will oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality, while serving as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this role is responsible for departmental leadership, staff development, strategic planning, resource management, and expanding the organization's presence within the transportation infrastructure market.

Responsibilities

Section Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of structural bridge engineers and technical staff.

Establish staffing plans, manage resource allocation, and forecast workload requirements.

Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard engineering professionals.

Conduct performance reviews, establish goals, provide coaching, and support career development through regular one-on-one meetings.

Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Manage departmental budgets and financial performance.

Project Management

Lead transportation structural engineering projects from planning through completion.

Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, quality, and overall project performance.

Develop Project Management Plans and Quality Management Plans.

Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and oversee subconsultants.

Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

Manage project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, change orders, and progress reporting.

Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience, including transportation or bridge infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and staff development.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and subconsultants.
  • Business development experience, including proposal preparation and pursuit support.
  • Strong financial management, resource planning, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.

Pay: $131,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
