Under the general direction of the leadership, the incumbent is responsible for the independent management and administration of a portfolio of contracts and grants with a primary emphasis on post award administration of clinical trials.

The successful incumbent will need skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and/or oversee research awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and to maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies.

The incumbent works on clinical trials of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations.

The incumbent will research issues, analyze data, prepare reports, make recommendations and meet with Principal Investigators on a monthly basis.

They provide accurate monthly financial reports to Principal Investigators and leadership, develop budgetary projections for review, and make budgetary adjustments as needed. Responsible for primary authorization and oversight of expenses on clinical trials including purchasing, invoice processing and expense reimbursements for clinical trial grants.

The incumbent serves as the subject matter expertise for pre‑award submission and works closely with Faculty to submit all extramural and intramural grants.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Health Administration or related field of study and/or equivalent experience/training.

Experience performing complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Experience managing a significant volume of transactions in a fast‑paced environment.

Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of federal and non‑federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.

Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.

Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

Skills to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.

Current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.

Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.

Preferred Qualifications Completion of UC Davis Research Administration Certificate Series program.

Knowledge of UC Davis Systems including Aggie Enterprise, Aggie Expense, Oncore, UC Path, Cognos.

Key Responsibilities 60% – Post award grant management.

35% – Pre award grant management.

5% – Effort reporting, progress reports and grant cost recovery.
